Premiere Table Read, May 2020

The premiere live table read of Common Ground featured an outstanding cast of actors from Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theater, film, television, social media, podcasts, and public radio. It was directed by Jack Fletcher, and narrated by Ellen Moore. This online event was produced by Nada Djordjevich, Alex Hurt, and Ellen Moore.

Alex Hurt

Actor Alex Hurt has appeared on Broadway in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.  Off-Broadway productions include Continuity (MTC), The Climb (Cherry Lane), Cardinal (Second Stage), The Whirligig (The New Group), Love, Love, Love (Roundabout), Dada Woof, Papa Hot (LCT), Placebo (Playwrights Horizons), Scenes from a Marriage (NYTW), and The Caucasian Chalk Circle (CSC). Regional theater productions include Huntington, Alley, SF Playhouse, and A.R.T. His films include Minyan, Foxhole, Faraway Eyes, Cut Shoot Kill, and The River Why. His performance as Adam in “The Rehearsal,” earned him a 2020 Daytime Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Performance by Lead Actor in a Digital Drama Series”. TV credits include Bonding, New Amsterdam, The Good Fight, Blue Bloods, Homeland, Bull, Law & Order: SVU and Elementary. Alex holds an MFA from NYU Tisch.

Andi Matichak

Andi Matichak starred alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and Judy Greer in the 2018 hit Halloween, directed by David Gordon Green. She will reprise her role as Allyson in the anticipated sequel, Halloween Kills. Recently, Andi finished shooting lead roles in the independent features Son, opposite Emile Hirsch, and Foxhole, directed by Jack Fessenden. She was previously seen on the WGN series Underground opposite Christopher Meloni. Other television credits include Orange Is the New Black, Steve McQueen’s HBO pilot “Codes of Conduct,” the ABC series 666 Park Avenue,  and Blue Bloods (CBS) opposite Bridget Moynahan and Donnie Wahlberg. Her other film credits include a lead in the independent film Miles opposite Molly Shannon and Missy Pyle, Naomi & Ely’s No Kiss List starring Victoria Justice, and a lead in the sci-fi indie Replicate opposite Calum Worthy and Joel Courtney.

Ellen Moore

Ellen Moore is a screenwriter, playwright, actress, and producer. Winner of a Chesterfield Fellowship at Amblin Entertainment and a California Arts Council Screenwriting Award, her work has been produced at the American Conservatory Theater, Encore Theater Co, Word for Word, Teatro Zinzanni, NYU Tisch, and more. She worked in feature film production on Bugsy, American President, Love Affair, Mars Attacks, Bulworth, and Richard III, and in television on “Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat.” Ellen wrote English adaptations for Japanese anime including Animatrix and Vampire Hunter D. She also co-hosts the podcast “Make Me Smart with Kai and Molly” and is an Ideas contributor at Wired. A nationally recognized business journalist, proficient in every type of media from television to print to web to audio, she is known as a pioneer in podcasting. She has received a Webby and a Gracie Award and was a finalist for the National Magazine Award. Prior to joining Marketplace, she was a columnist at The New York Times and an executive editor at CNET.

Matt Saldivar

Matt Saldivar has played principal roles on Broadway in Berhardt/Hamlet, Saint Joan, Junk, Honeymoon in Vegas, Act One, Peter and the Starcatcher, A Streetcar Named Desire, Grease, and The Wedding Singer.  He has appeared Off-Broadway at The Public Theater, New York Theater Workshop, Signature, Atlantic, MTC, Classic Stage Company, The Delacorte, Primary Stages, Theater for a New Audience, New World Stages, Williamstown, Mark Taper Forum, Guthrie, Shakespeare Theater, Long Wharf, Bay Street, etc. His TV and film credits include The Other Two, Rent: Live on Fox, The Code, The Good Cop, Elementary, Live from Lincoln Center, Savages, Tony and Tina’s Wedding, and Boiler Room. Matt is a graduate of the NYU Graduate Acting Program and Middlebury College. 

Nicole Rodenburg

Nicole Rodenburg is an actor and filmmaker based in NYC. She’s currently in post-production for her directorial feature film debut, Glob Lessons, which was filmed on location across her home state of North Dakota. She co-wrote the script and also co-stars. Favorite theatre work includes Annie Baker’s Pulitzer Prize winning The Flick as well as the world premiere of Baker’s newest play, The Antipodes, the world premiere of Ming Peiffer’s Usual Girls, the world premiere of Samuel D. Hunter’s The Whale, and recently playing Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. Her film and television work includes a starring role in the indie comedy What Children Do alongside John Early and Josh Ruben, and Tic, Tenderly, Good News for Modern Man, Inside Amy Schumer, The Shivering Truth, and Amish Witches. Christian Parker

Christian Parker is a director, dramaturg, and former Chair of the graduate Theatre Program (2012-19) at Columbia University, where he also heads the Dramaturgy concentration. Recent projects include David Hare’s Skylight at Gulfshore Playhouse, workshops of Kirk Lynn’s The First Line of Dante’s Inferno at Rattlestick and his My Heart is a Library, Yours is a Museum for New Harmony Project, and Lynn Rosen’s The Imperialists for Theatre Works/Silicon Valley. From 2001-2014 he was the Associate Artistic Director of Atlantic Theater Company, where he directed plays by Tina Howe, Ken Weitzman, Jeff Whitty, Leslie Ayvazian, Kevin Heelan, Kate Moira Ryan, and Rolin Jones. He served on the Tony Awards Nominating Committee from 2014-2017. He holds a BA from Middlebury College and an MFA from Columbia.

Howard Swain

Actor, writer, director, and acting coach Howard Swain has appeared on stage, film, and television. He played principal roles in multiple productions at American Conservatory Theater and the Aurora Theatre Company in Berkeley, and in productions at Jewel Theater Company, Center REPertory Company,  TheatreWorks Silicon Valley,  Marin Theater Company, TheatreWorks, TheatreFirst, San Jose Repertory Theater, New York Theater Workshop, SF Playhouse, and Berkeley Repertory Theater. He has also performed with the New Shakespeare Festival of San Francisco, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, California Shakespeare Theater, Marin Shakespeare Festival, and Santa Cruz Shakespeare Festival.

Julie Rubio

An award-winning writer, director, actor, and producer, Julie Rubio’s feature East Side Sushi was identified in 2019 as one of the Top 20 Bay Area Films of the Decade (Mercury News). It was also nominated for Cinema Tropical’s Best Latino Film of the Year. She wrote, directed, and produced Too Perfect and Six Sexy Scenes and a Murder. She produced Oakland B Mine, the comedy Del Cielo (Of Heaven), Everything is Temporary, and Kahleo Music, and produced Soledad is Gone Forever for Haiku Films. She is the founder of East Meets West Productions. She studied at The Strasberg Institute in both London and New York City and has appeared in over 20 theatrical productions. Sam Gregory

Sam Gregory has been acting in regional theater for 35 years. As a resident actor at the Denver Center for Performing Arts, Sam appeared in over 50 productions and won numerous local acting awards. Prior to moving to Colorado, he worked in New York City and had many small parts in television and on commercials. He has also performed with Theaterworks in Hartford, Connecticut; the Colorado, California, and Alabama Shakespeare Festivals; the Seattle, Milwaukee, and San Jose Repertory Theatres; Cleveland, Cincinnati, and George Street Playhouses; American Players Theatre; TheatreWorks in Colorado Springs; the Eugene O'Neill Center New Playwrights Festival; and the Eureka Theatre. 

Ben Kawaller

Ben Kawaller is a writer, producer, actor, and comedian. His award-winning comedy pilot “This Isn’t Me” is a South by Southwest 2020 official selection. He was listed in the 2016 Blacklist TV Staffing Book for the dark-comedy “The Next Best Thing.” As a stand-up comic, he has performed in numerous venues, including Flappers, The Hollywood Improv, and Carolines on Broadway. He also produces comedy videos for Los Angeles Magazine and Wehoville. He has written for The Advocate, Salon, and NYMag, among other publications. Ben received his BA from Harvard University and is a proud alumnus of Hasty Pudding Theatricals.

Skylar Schock

Skylar Schock is a Los Angeles-based actor and filmmaker. Her recent parts include Mel and Ruby by Oran Zegman, She Had it Coming by Gedde Watanabe, and As You Like It, as Rosalind, in a Paris, France, production. She was a TA for the Producing Program under Tom Nunan at UCLA Professional Program. She is a graduate of the UCLA Professional Program in Acting for the Camera. Skylar also trained at the Stella Adler Professional Conservatory with master Meisner teacher Kathryn Gately. She is passionate about finding ways to use theater and film to tell stories that will enhance the current dialogue in national conversations.

He’s directed iconic animation titles such as “Powerpuff Girls,” “Looney Tunes,” and “Princess Mononoke.” His game titles include the recent Walking Dead, Season 4; Middle-Earth: Shadow of War; Shadow of Mordor; Guardians of Middle Earth; Chronicles of Valkyria; Riddick:Dark Athena; and Final Fantasy games – X, X-2, XII, Tactics, 13, and 13 part 2; as well as Sonic game titles and more. Jack directed projects for Alien Voices and the SciFi Channel featuring Star Trek actors Leonard Nimoy, John DeLancie, and William Shatner. He has worked with the very finest voice and acting talent available, including Hugh Jackman, Mark Hamill, Pam Adlon, Keith David, Ming-Na Wen, Flea, Pamela Anderson, Claire Danes, Billy Crudup, Donald Sutherland, Vin Diesel, Gillian Anderson, Alec Baldwin, Sarah Michelle Geller, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Ving Rhames, Debbie Reynolds, John DiMaggio, Patrick Warburton, Tom Kenny, Phil Hartman, Kirsten Dunst, and many more. Jack has directed live action dubs and many Japanese anime titles. Trained in acting at Julliard and in film at NYU, Jack has a theater background and taught acting and directed for the stage.

Writer - Nada Djordjevich

Nada Djordjevich has received numerous writing honors. Her feature and short screenplays have been recognized by BlueCat, Chesterfield Writer's Film Project, Fresh Voices, Table Read My Screenplay, Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum, NYC Midnight, SF IndieFest, and Zoetrope, among others. She was awarded writing scholarships from Vermont Studio Center, the Squaw Valley Community of Writers, and the Southampton Writers Conference. A storyteller, she has performed her writing live in many forums including the Litquake Literary Festival, KGB Bar Reading Series in NYC, and the Lit Camp Basement Series. A finalist for the Boulevard magazine fiction contest, she co-founded the acclaimed literary journal On the Page magazine. As a consultant, she has raised significant funds to address disparities in access to arts, academic, and environmental programs. As a board member of Women In Film, San Francisco Bay Area (wifsfba.org), she works to advance professional development and achievement for women in film and all screen-based media. She attended the UCLA Professional Program in Screenwriting, and has degrees from UC Berkeley and Harvard University.
